Free Arkham City Skin

Posted in News by Alex Sanberg (Tue, Dec 20, 2011)

There are a lot of different looks you can achieve in Batman: Arkham City thanks to all the different available costume skins. Well, we are getting one more option, and this one is going to be free! According to the Arkham City forums, Rocksteady will be giving us a skin based off of the “Batman Inc.” design as a thank you for all the support the fans have given them. You’ll be able to download it tomorrow from the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Windows Marketplace, and the PlayStation Network.

As an added bonus, Rocksteady has told us a cheat you can input to use any skin that you already have during the campaign before you beat it. After you select your save slot in the main menu, simply press the following controls: Left, Left, Down, Down, Left, Left, Right, Up, Up, Down. You’ll hear a a bit of audio confirming that you did it correctly, and then you’ll be able to play with different costume skins anytime you want. Merry Christmas!

Law and Order: Legacies Game by Telltale

Posted in News by Alex Sanberg (Wed, Dec 14, 2011)

Listen. There’s, like, ten different version of the show Law and Order. So, if you’re at all shocked that Telltale Games is releasing Law and Order: Legacies, then there’s no helping you. The game is going to be episodic (like a TV show!), and the first one is coming out next month for the iPad and iPhone. There will also be a PC and Mac version coming out in early 2012, and you can bet there will be plenty more episodes coming for each version.

The game will feature characters that you may recognize from the popular television show. I can’t tell you who they are because it’s hard enough for me to follow one show, let alone twenty different ones from the same franchise. The game will feature both the investigative parts, for finding out who committed the crime, and the prosecution side of the show, for trying to get the criminals behind bars. There is even a morality aspect to the game which can affect the outcome of the story and whether or not you win or lose a case. Does anybody else have a fear that this game will have a never-ending series of episodes, much like the show?

Naughty Dog’s ‘The Last Of Us’ Trailer

Posted in News by Alex Sanberg (Wed, Dec 14, 2011)

For the VGAs, Sony was getting everyone excited about a new IP called The Last of Us by releasing a teaser trailer. What they ended up revealing at the “award show” was a new game by Uncharted developer Naughty Dog that seems to set you in the middle of a post-apocalyptic world that is overrun by zombie-like creatures. The trailer was captured from the in-game engine running on a PS3, and it looked absolutely gorgeous. There is an incredible amount of detail in all the textures and models, and it had some really impressive lighting effects. Overall, it was just stunning to look at.

Unfortunately, the trailer didn’t reveal much about The Last Of Us. They don’t come right out and say it’s zombies in the game, but that’s what we inferred from the trailer. We also don’t know which character you’ll be controlling, or if it will be both characters. However, the creatures may be something completely different with their weird, misshaped heads that get blown off. We don’t even know what type of game it will be. Action? Survival horror? Puzzle? Dating sim?

I, for one, am hoping it is a dating sim. Why? Look at the girl in the trailer and tell me that isn’t Ellen Page. Who wouldn’t want to take Ellen Page out on a date? Anyways, there’s a lot of questions that still need answering about this game. What do you guys think The Last Of Us will bring to the table?

Xbox Live App for iOS

Posted in News by Alex Sanberg (Wed, Dec 14, 2011)

Have you ever been out with your friends and wanted to show off your achievement score with them? Well, with the free “My Xbox LIVE” app that is available for your iOS device, you can now do that. It is the official Xbox LIVE app that allows you to go through your game list, see what friends are online and what they are playing, send them messages, and update your profile and avatar. You can also view those ads that we always ignore on the Dashboard

The iOS version is a bit limited when compared to the Windows Phone’s “Xbox Companion” app because you can’t search for games, music, or movies that you can get on Xbox LIVE. It also can’t act like a controller, allowing you to launch a game or movie through it, pause and play videos, etc. with the system it is linked to like the Xbox Companion app can. Either way, both apps are fun little ways to navigate your Xbox profile, but does anyone really see themselves using these apps on a regular basis?

Alan Wake’s American Nightmare Name Outed

Posted in News by Alex Sanberg (Thu, Dec 8, 2011)

There’s been a lot of speculation about the new Alan Wake that’s in the works. We know it’s an XBLA title, Game Informer released a screenshot, more will be revealed at the VGAs, and that’s about it. However, Siliconera has found through a German rating board that the game will be called Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.  I’m sure you just couldn’t wait two more days to hear the name of that downloadable game that ties into that other mediocre game! You can probably die happy now.

Epic Unveiling New IP at VGAs

Posted in News by Alex Sanberg (Wed, Dec 7, 2011)

Epic has been working on the Gears of War  franchise for approximately 10 years now. They thinks it’s about time for a change. That’s why they are excited to unveil a completely new IP at this year’s VGAs, which will take place on Saturday. Mike Capps, president of Epic Games, told GamesIndustry.biz that it is “radically different” for them, and he wants fans to see it as a departure from what they’ve come to expect. He actually mentions how he fears that people would look at it as just like another Epic game but, at the same time, is also afraid it will steer fans away. So needless to say, he’s nervous about the unveiling.

However, Capps and the team over at Epic Games are very excited to be working on a new project. They find it very “refreshing” because they have all this untapped creative energy that is finally being put into something new and different. I, for one, can’t wait to see what will be shown on Saturday. Are there any general predictions as to what Epic could be working on?

The Darkness 2 Gets a 4 Player Co-op Mode

Posted in News by Alex Sanberg (Tue, Dec 6, 2011)

There’s something about the number 4 that Digital Extremes really likes. One of the main selling points of The Darkness 2 is its quad-wielding gameplay. Now it appears there’s going to be a 4 player co-op mode as well. Maybe they just should have called it “The Darkness 4,” amiright? Hahahahaha… *cough*

Sorry. Anyways, the co-op mode, which is being called “Vendettas,” features new environments and a new storyline that runs parallel to the single player campaign. You’ll also play as one of four different characters: Inugami with his samurai sword, Shoshanna with her multi-burst gun, Jimmy Wilson with his axe, and J.P. DuMond with his voodoo. I could probably go into greater detail with these characters, but then we’d run the risk of me making another bad joke. So, watch the above trailer to see just what these guy can do. And seriously, sorry.

Skyrim PS3 Patch Has Issues

Posted in News by Corey Hall (Tue, Dec 6, 2011)

Those unfortunate enough to have purchased Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for PlayStation 3 were probably starting to feel good about their investment after Bethesda released an official patch promising performance and bug fixes galore. Sounds promising doesn’t it? Not so fast, we are being told.

Many users are still voicing their complaints on Bethesda’s forums, and some editors have gone as far as to say they would struggle to recommend the PS3 version at this point. For those still unfamiliar with the issues, after a certain number of hours of Skyrim on the PS3, many players have hit game breaking bugs, the most common of which being an unplayable frame rate. On their official blog, Bethesda listed the PS3’s “occasional performance issues resulting from long term play” at the top of the list, which seems to be the most widely reported issue after the patch. Hard to believe really, considering Bethesda’s track record for fixing any issues with a single, flawless update.

Jokes, people. Jokes.

What have your experiences been, post-update? Rage? Euphoria? Does this make you think twice about purchasing a Bethesda title at launch?

Modern Warfare 3 Avatar Sale Benifits Charity

Posted in News by Alex Sanberg (Mon, Dec 5, 2011)

It’s the holiday season; AKA the seasons where a lot of charities like to pop up. Here’s a pretty great one that gamers can sink their teeth into. The people over at Activision are getting into this giving spirit as well. They have announced that from December 2nd to 16th the proceeds from buying Modern Warfare 3 avatar items on the Xbox Live Marketplace will help benefit real soldiers. It’s part of the Call of Duty Endowment, which helps Armed Forces veterans get set up for a civilian life.

These proceeds go on top of the $3 million Activision donated to honor Veteran’s Day and to celebrate the record breaking sales of Modern Warfare 3. So, if you want to help out the returning war veterans who aid in protecting our freedom, then go buy some avatar items. How often does donating to charity help get you something nifty in return?

PS Vita Memory Cards Priced

Posted in News by Matt Luker (Fri, Dec 2, 2011)

We’re just under three months away from the release of the PS Vita. So Sony thought it was time to drop the bomb, the pricing of their proprietary memory cards bomb, that is. Start shovelling that snow kids because you’ll need the dough. A 4GB memory card will run you $29.99, 8GB for $44.99, 16GB for $69.99, and 32GB will cost $119.99. So yeah, those who aren’t willing to pay for these will have to purchase their games retail. Portable gaming at its finest folks. Remember when we used to have to do that for all of our games? Wasn’t that fun?

The PS Vita will be released on February 22, 2012.
