If you follow fake Sony VP Kevin Butler on Twitter, then you know that he had resigned from his position at Sony to help run the family carpeting business. Well, good news. Kevin Butler is putting flooring behind him and is back at Sony. While this technically qualify as “real news,” and has no bearing on upcoming releases, the video was just too funny to not put up. It kicks off Sony’s “Long Live Play” campaign and takes some direct shots at both Nintendo and Microsoft. When you add in a pretty funny voice cameo from Sony executive Jack Tretton, the entire commercial is pretty much a victory.

And it’s awesome. Featuring Dollface, we get a look at her backstory as well as a bit gameplay. There’s the standard driving that we know and love from the Twisted Metal franchise, along with flying this time around, which should make for some interesting matches. In addition to showing off some gameplay, the trailer also unveils some new weapons. My favorite are the murder balls. Spiked land mines that shoot from your vehicle is exactly what this series needed. Twisted Metal will be released for the PlayStation 3 on February 14.

Upcoming MMORPG The Secret World made an appearance at Gamescom this year, with a new trailer and an April 2012 release window. The game, which has to do with secret societies and conspiracies, is being developed by Funcom, who said that it will start inviting players to register for the beta on August 26, as in next week. The process will happen though an “interactive social media campaign,” so be sure to keep checking the Twitters and Facebooks if you’re at all interested in the game.

I think I’m the only one here on the site exciting for the upcoming PC shooter Hard Reset, which is actually funny because I don’t own a PC and am not the biggest fan of shooters. But there’s something about this game that gets me pumped. In the newest trailer, we get a bit of information on the story of the game, presented in motion comic form. It’s a great/trendy style that this game pulls off well, but it will be interesting to see if this is how all of the cinematics in the game will be or not. I would explain to you what happens in the trailer, but to be honest, it would be a lot easier and less confusing if you just watched the video.

Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear and profound hype man, has tweeted a rather interesting picture. The image is of a Jehuty statue, but that’s not the important part. If you look closely at the background, you’ll see a Z.O.E. logo that’s mirrored. However, if you look even closer, you’ll realize that the logo isn’t actually mirrored. The periods are missing and the “O” has been slightly modified to look like a “D,” resulting in the letters 3DS. Could Kojima be hinting at a Zone of the Enders game coming to the handheld? If one is, would you rather see a remake of an older title or something entirely new? With the flight and ridiculous particle effects that the series features, the 3DS would be a great fit for the franchise.

It seems like we are getting new villain videos for the upcoming Batman: Arkham City nearly every week. This week is no exception. We recently got a glimpse of The Penguin in action, and today Rocksteady has unveiled yet another villain, Mr. Freeze. It looks like Victor is trying to do whatever he can to bring back his dead wife, Nora, which is pretty standard fare for the rogue. What’s more interesting is the weaponry and defense that the baddy packs. He has the standard freeze gun but also seems to have some sort of forcefield around him. His armor is pretty intimidating too, conjuring thoughts of a Big Daddy in my mind. It will be interesting to see what roll Freeze plays in the story when the game is released in October.

Monolith’s newest game, an arcadey first-person shooter set in the Batman universe but not using Batman, took everybody by surprise when it was announced. We had seen some trailers for Gotham City Impostors before, but now we have a first look at the gameplay. Along with seeing how the game looks in motion, the newest trailer gives us a peek into the customization aspect of the game, which looks fairly robust.

As for the gameplay itself, it actually looks like it could be a lot of fun. It has a more light-hearted, Team Fortress 2 vibe to it as far as the fast-pace and goofiness is concerned. The weapons look pretty inventive, such as the grappling hook that you have to reel yourself up with and freeze guns that gave me flashbacks to BioShock. All in all, it looks like if the gameplay is solid, the game could turn out to be a hit when it is released in 2012.
