I Couldn’t Be More Excited

As we have previously discussed I am a Halo Fanboy, and it’s not very often that I get to experience the build up to a new Halo game. I mean not as often as Imagine fanboys get to. I mean those people get a new game like every week. I lived through the level 5 hype storm that was Halo 2, the craziness that was Halo 3, and the apathetic launch of Halo Wars. Tonight Halo 3: ODST comes out. This will mark the second time this year that a Halo game that is not Halo 4 comes out. Something “completely different”, but it is a new Bungie game, and I love me some Bungie.

There is a lot to be excited about, but telling you about the game is just a rehash of what you can go read on a hundred other sites who actually got to play the game. All I can tell you is, how excited I am, and how excited we are at 4PC HQ. In the wee hours of this morning 3/5ths of 4PC will be engaged in a vicious Firefight with Covenant forces. Then tomorrow after probably far too few hours of sleep we will get up and begin to tackle ODST’s campaign.

I’m excited, probably too excited. I have watched every trailer, dozens of times. I have watched that live action commercial more times then I care to admit, and have read every spoiler free article I possibly could. I have even gone to my Bungie.net page and have looked at the section where my ODST stats are going to go. I’ve got it bad. A new Halo game is an event for me, I’ve recharged rechargeable batteries, bought fresh batteries for my wireless headphones, and stocked my fridge with energy drinks to keep me going. This is as excited as I get for a new video game.

Of course burying my hype meter in the red sets me up for massive disappointment. What if the game I have been waiting for with bated breath turns out to be a dud? Has it happened? Sure. The Force Unleashed most notably and recently. Still the gamer in me lives for moments like tonight. This is kind of what it’s all about. Being hyped for a new game, and the moment is finally here, the plans are made and no matter if the game is good or bad it’s going to be an experience I keep in my mind for quite some time.

Am I alone though? Is anyone out there as giddy with anticipation as me? I don’t mean just for ODST, I mean for any game. I can’t be the only one who frequents this site, who has gotten this prepared for the launch of a new video game. Right? Let’s take this to the forums, anyone have any good stories of preparing, playing, skipping work/school for the launch of a new video game?

I took a week’s vacation from work when Halo 2 came out. Anyone got anything better? Leave a post here, let me know.
