More layoffs in the world of video games today as Raven who just last week released Woflenstein let 30-35 employees go and Maxis laid off an unknown number of employees today. Raven says in a statement that they just aren’t working on as many titles as they were previous to Wolfenstein. Raven used to work on three games at a time, but it appears they will only be working on two games at a time from here on out.
EA says the layoffs at Maxis were to “focus” the studio. The only game Maxis is currently involved in is Spore and it’s forthcoming offshoot titles. Different teams at EA actually work on The Sims line of titles. We assume that the work on the Spore offshoot titles are coming to an end, and sadly Spore hasn’t exactly set the world ablaze as far as sales go.
