We reported shortly after Grin closed that they were rumored to be working on a Final Fantasy spinoff game called “Fortress”. After the closure (and the resulting leak of concept images) it was assumed that the project died with the studio. Gamesindustry.biz is now reporting that that may not be the case. Citing the ever elusive “sources close to both parties” not only do they say that Square Enix is still working on the project but that the removal of the project from Grin was instrumental in their closure. The sources say the project was moved back to Squeenix 6 months into development over quality concerns.
