Slow News Day

I know you want to accuse us of being lazy and playing too much Bioshock 2, but the reality is there hasn’t been much news to report. There are, however, snippets of information all of which I will tell you about right now*.

  • The Starcraft 2 beta is scheduled to start this month according to Mike Morhaime on the Blizzard earnings call. Kotaku has more details about it.
  • Original Xbox DLC is slowly going bye-bye, ahead of the system’s April 15th disconnection from the service. [UPDATE]: Just as I went to press (that’s industry talk for hitting the “publish” button), Joystiq posted a story saying that Microsoft was actively trying to restore Xbox 1 DLC, allowing users to access it until April 15th.
  • EA’s “Project 10 Dollar” is sure to raise some eyebrows and spur conversation. I would pay attention to future Bullshot! and Pixelosophy episodes for our thoughts.
  • Dead Space 2 PC is currently “not in the plan” according to an EA spokesperson.
  • And perhaps the most interesting news story (and something we missed) was EA’s decision to scale back their distribution business for externally developed titles. The wording is vague, but this may leave Valve and Harmonix (among others) without a way to get their product into your hands. The repercussions seem pretty big and I can’t wait to discuss it on Bullshot!.

That’s it for now. Go and play one of the titles that came out this week. Based on reviews (and my early impressions) both seem worthy of at least your time.

*Bonus points for whomever gets the reference.
