From Sony Online Entertainment:

“Reaching 10 million registered players on the eve of Free Realms’ first birthday is an incredibly exciting event for SOE and our passionate online community,” said John Smedley, president of SOE.  “Millions of gamers have confirmed that the genre we pioneered over 11 years ago with the original EverQuest continues to evolve and expand to include new styles of gameplay that reach a wider audience than ever before.”

10 million registered players for a freemium game just means that 10 million people have linked their Station accounts to Free Realms, hell I did it. I played for a couple of hours. It’s a good game but 10 million users for a game that you don’t have to pay monthly for doesn’t have the same kind of impact as say, 11.5 million players in World of Warcraft. Still, 10 million people willing to give the game a shot is nothing to scoff at. It will be interesting to see how many more users they get if the game ever comes to the Playstation 3.
