From Joystiq:
Activision announced today that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 “Stimulus Package” set a new Xbox Live record — clearly, mapathy had set in. According to Microsoft’s figures, the DLC pack was downloaded over one million times in 24 hours, surpassing 2.5 million units within a week. All at $15 a pop.
Look we can bitch and moan and cry about this all we want, but we knew this was going to happen, I mean just in sheer numbers we knew this was going to happen. It was the biggest selling game of 2009 and no matter how much the map pack cost of course it was going to sell this many copies. There are enough people out there just playing Modern Warfare 2 that $15 was no big deal for them. A $15 expansion is not unheard of.
Now on the PC side of things this weekend on Steam you can play the multiplayer portion of Modern Warfare 2 absolutely free! I wouldn’t be surprised if the game was also heavily discounted this weekend as well to entice players to purchase, but nothing has been confirmed as of right now.
