Nintendo opened their conference this morning with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which basically adds WiiSports Resort sports as items. Seriously, the bow and arrow is there, a flying bug uses the same mechanics as the parachuting, and the boomerang works like the frisbee. Miyamoto confirmed that WiiSports Resort and Wii MotionPlus were the inspirations for this new Zelda game. The game is cel-shaded but in way that looks more painted than animated. Enemies must also be slashed in a certain way using the power of the MotionPlus. We saw a plant enemy, much like the plants that come out of the pipes in Mario Bros. and if their mouths were vertical you had to slash them vertically up the mouth. Make sense? Either way, it’s new Zelda so odds are it’s going to be good.
