Wow, the title just kind of sums up the whole story, eh? IGN has confirmation from their loose-lipped Aussie sources that the (assumed) worldwide release date of  Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be November 8th. The poster above, from the same source, reiterates the November 8th release date. We’ve also seen Amazon advertising an 11/8 release date on its pre-orders page MW3. I don’t really trust Australians, but I do trust Amazon, so that’s good enough for me.

That date would put MW3′s release at a week behind the rumored release date of EA’s  “Modern Warfare killer,” Battlefield 3. Do you see EA sticking with an early November release date or is releasing a revamped FPS so close to a proven chart-topping franchise too risky?

Coming hot off the heels of leaked information, Activision has released the first official teaser video for Modern Warfare 3 called the America Under Siege trailer. There isn’t much there other than military chatter over a black screen with a sound bar, but this is merely the appetizer before the main course reveal that I’m sure we will get at E3. And yes, they really did spell it Am3rica.

Kotaku has been on fire all week with Modern Warfare 3 rumors, but it appears they’ve saved the best for last. Someone or someones leaked nearly everything about the game to them. If their spy is to be believed the game will take place in a dozen locations all across the world and will pick up right where Modern Warfare 2 left off. Kotaku’s article is full of spoilers for the game’s campaign, so if you head over there tread lightly if you don’t want to learn who lives and who dies over the course of the game. The single player campaign is said to be about the imminent war between Russia and America after the events of Modern Warfare 2.

The leak also reveals the names of no less than 20 multiplayer maps. There’s no word on if those will all come on the disc or if they will eventually find their way to DLC packs. The game will also feature an expanded version of Modern Warfare 2‘s SpecOps mode as it will add Survival missions, which will basically be horde mode as you and your friends fight off waves of enemies. The game is said to have a release date of November 8th.

Will this leak force Activision’s hand? Will we get confirmation of all of these details? Or will we still have to wait for magazine covers and this year’s E3 to get the full scoop?

It’s no secret that the next Call of Duty game was coming out of Sledgehammer Games the company started by former Visceral Games higher ups Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey. The question is what KIND of Call of Duty game was going to come out of Sledgehammer. Was it a sci-fi game, a third person action title starring Ghost? Well it seems like whatever it was it’s now on the back burner. The LA Times reports that Sledgehammer is working hand in hand with whatever is left of Infinity Ward to make the single player campaign for Modern Warfare 3 and not only that, but it will be out THIS Fall. As far as the multiplayer goes, that is being handled by Raven Software who made many of the multiplayer maps for Call of Duty: Black Ops so they know a thing or two about CoD multiplayer. Hopefully the two studios can make something worthy of it’s predecessor and not release something diluted by the use of two teams and the stress of getting it done in the next 10 months.

Activision has responded to the story saying “There’s been much specultion recently. We look forward to releasing details for the next Call of Duty in the near future.”

It was a month ago that Activision amended their lawsuit against Infinity Ward to include EA who they claimed was engaged in shenanigans with Infinity Ward to damage their company. Parts of that amendment were redacted but now that the amendment has been approved all the secrets are out, and one of them is pretty nasty. According to an internal EA email Infinity Ward head Vince Zampella was “cool” with pushing back the release of the first Modern Warfare 2 map pack to the end of March 2010 so that it wouldn’t interfere with the early March 2010 release of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. This was all leading up to the supposed eventual signing of West and Zampella to EA. Those details are also included in the redacted emails.

It has been suggested that the game is going to be a prequel that focuses on Ghost from Modern Warfare 2, how he came to be in Task Force 141, and the events that lead to the war in the first Modern Warfare.  The game will also bring players back to locations from the two Modern Warfare games, but from a different viewpoint. Of course, this is all rumor at the moment, so don’t get too excited/angry. Do you think this is likely to happen, or just wild speculation from some guy that can’t keep his mouth shut?
