The latest character joining the ranks of Mortal Kombat fighters is Freddy Krueger. Yes, the Nightmare on Elm Street guy. No, you aren’t dreaming. You can purchase the classic horror movie villain on August 9th for 400 MS points on the Xbox Live Market place or for $4.99 on the PSN. However, if you have a season pass for the game, you don’t have to pay to get him. Finally, if you are one of the lucky people who are attending SDCC, you can get an early glimpse of him at the GameStop in Horton Plaza between 7 and 10 p.m. PT.

The sometimes surprising and always informative list of the top 10 games for June 2011 is out. Despite the 4PC crew’s most valiant efforts to deter it from happening, L.A. Noire and Duke Nukem Forever have landed in the top two spots. inFAMOUS 2 takes the bronze this month, which was met with mixed feelings from some of our staff. Moving onto console stats, the Xbox 360 sold 507,000 units, making it the undisputed console king of June ’11. On the whole, overall game sales were down about $120 million in June. Take a look at the list below and let us know in the comments if anything there surprises or offends you. Starting June 21st, those of us who are planning on purchasing all of the forthcoming DLC characters can purchase the “Kombat Pass” for 1200 MS points ($15.) Included in the pack will be the first DLC character Skarlet, as well as Kenshi, Rain, and the unannounced fourth character as they become available. Those characters will cost 400 MS points ($5) separately if you don’t buy the pass. This deal currently exists only for the Xbox 360, meaning that you will have to buy all the character separately on the PS3.

Much like the “Rockstar Pass,” this seems like a good way to do DLC.

There, I’m glad that’s cleared up.

Did you buy the new Mortal Kombat from three different retailers just so you could get all of the exclusive downloadable kontent? Well then for you I have bad news. According to Ed Boon’s twitter feed, all of that “exclusive” kontent will be bundled together and sold as DLK. The package includes seven outfits and three fatalities, and Boon says that we will get a trailer this Friday. I know at least one staffer that’s already got his Microsoft Points ready.

In an interview with G4TV, Ed Boon let loose the details of the first Mortal Kombat DLC, which he said would be releasing “within the next month” but probably “in a few weeks.” The DLC will contain balances fixes, bug patches, the character Skarlett (fans will know her from the previous generation’s 3D MK games), and “other freebies.” No price was mentioned but, given that Boon stressed that he wanted to wrap the balance and bug fixes into the Skarlett character DLC, I will go ahead and blatantly speculate that the first DLC is gonna be a freebie.
