Xenoblade Chronicles Hitting the US

For those of you who are unaware, Xenoblade Chronicles is a game that was stirring up some buzz because it wasn’t coming to US retailers. It was actually one of three games that were part of an online movement that gained some recognition. Well, it seems as though, for once, online petitions actually did the trick because Nintendo announced today that they will be bringing Xenoblade Chronicles to the US.

According to the the press release, you will only be able to get the game through Gamestop or Nintendo.com, and it will cost you $50. The release date for Xenoblade Chronicles was just given as April 2012, and Gamestop has it listed as April 2nd, so lets just go with that. So, at least Operation Rainfall got one out of the three games they requested. Let’s hope this appeases them for awhile.

US Getting Zelda 3DS Bundle

Many American gamers were a little bitter over the fact that Europe was getting a Zelda 3DS bundle that came with a very nice looking Zelda-themed piece of hardware. Thankfully, they no longer have to hold any resentment toward our friends across the Atlantic because we are now getting the same deal. Beginning Thanksgiving Day, people in the US will be able to get their hands on the Zelda 3DS bundle

With this deal, $200 will get you a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as well as the special limited edition Cosmo Black Nintendo 3DS embellished with gold Hyrule symbols in honor of the 25th anniversary of Zelda. There will also be a Super Mario 3D Land bundle that comes with a Flame Red 3DS, but that’s nowhere near as exciting as the Zelda one. I guess you can buy that one if you want to be boring.

Ninja Gaiden Ninjaly Sneaks into Wii U Launch Lineup

Tecmo outlined their 2012 plans and while most of the announcements probably could have been predicted, one thing caught us by surprise. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge will be coming out as a Wii U launch title when the console arrives next year. This is exciting news for early adopters, but has me thinking about how the game will play.

First, I’m forced to wonder what controlling a ninja will be like on the Wii U’s controller. I think from the demo video at the Wii U’s announcement, we can assume that we’ll be swiping shurikens and utilizing some ninja-vision. The second thing I’m forced to wonder is if Nintendo will allow such a violent game to be a launch title without any changes being made to the level of gore the trailer depicts will be in the game. Finally, I need to know exactly how much a Wii U controller will cost to replace when I rage smash one after the first ridiculously hard boss fight so I can start budgeting now. I’m sure we’ll get some more answers once the console launch draws near, so until then, let’s just post some wild speculation in the comments.

Europe Getting Limited Edition Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS

If you follow the don’t need but must have way of thinking, like me, limited edition consoles are right up your alley, and this one does not disappoint. To commemorate The Legend Of Zelda’s 25th birthday, Nintendo will be releasing a special edition Zelda-inspired 3DS this holiday season. The handheld comes with the obligatory Hyrule emblem and gold-colored embellishments, as well as a sexy black finish. They’re also tossing in a a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, which will feature a special double-sided sleeve.

No word yet on pricing, but for now, this is exclusive to Europe and will be released on November 25th. Oh the irony.

Nintendo announces Limited Edition The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary bundle

New 3DS Zelda in the Works, Majora’s Mask Still a Possibility

With development on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword finished, fans are already curious about what’s next for their beloved hero in green. In an interview with Portuguese gaming site MyGames, Producer Eiji Aonuma uncovered some surprise details regarding the franchises’ future in the form of an all new adventure already in development for the 3DS. No further details were given, other than it will utilize ideas from previous handheld iterations of the series and will not be a direct sequel to the Zelda titles previously released on DS.

Aonuma also revealed that he’s spoken to Miyamoto about the idea of a 3DS remake of Majora’s Mask as well; something fans started asking for almost immediately after the release of the 3D remake of Ocarina of Time.

From Aonuma:

It’s something I’m asked about often and I assure you that it is something I’ve spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.

This is a very un-Nintendo like move given their penchant for remakes, not to mention the recent success of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, but I’m not complaining. If the 3DS is truly going to succeed, it’s going to take a lot more than just N64 remakes, and I’m sure Nintendo realizes this.

We all know the 3DS is constantly under fire, but if this information holds true along with the solid upcoming software lineup, grab your shades kids because the future’s looking bright.

Mario Kart 7 3DS Steering Wheel Discovered

Man, those portable Mario Kart games are fun and all, but don’t you feel sometimes like things would be better if you could just lean into that turn? The years of pain and hardship are over, as Andriasang broke today that there would be an officially licensed Nintendo steering wheel for the 3DS. The new peripheral will be priced at ¥1,280 (that’s $17 ameribucks), and will be released alongside Mario Kart 7 on December 1.

So we have our second analog stick,and now we have our steering wheel. What’s your bet on the next nifty peripheral?

Hulu Plus Coming to Wii and 3DS

This morning at the Nintendo press conference, it was announced that the subscription TV streaming service Hulu Plus would be arriving on the Wii and 3DS. It has been confirmed that in order to use Hulu Plus, you will in fact have to turn on your Wii, and will surely be inadequate without a second analog stick.

Kidding aside, Hulu will be available for $7.99/month and will feature “thousands of TV episodes” including the current seasons of “Modern Family, Glee, The Biggest Loser, House, and Greys Anatomy.” So let’s cut some cables and smash some TV boxes, and then I’m sure we can find some sort of DIY show on Hulu to fix it.

Nintendo to Hold 3DS Conference Online Tomorrow

Nintendo has announced an Internet-only 3DS presentation this Friday, October 21 at 8PM (7AM EDT). The presentation will be pre-recorded and streamed online for your viewing pleasure. Those interested should be able to find the presentation via streaming sites like Ustream or Nico Nico Video.

Details are scarce, but it is rumored to be focusing on the upcoming November firmware update for 3DS, along with details about Mario Kart 7. Hopefully they have some surprise announcements in store for us as well, as these two things alone don’t seem to warrant this kind of treatment. No, 3D video recording doesn’t count.

Also announced, as part of the aforementioned firmware update, was a new StreetPass game, though details are still unknown at this time. StreetPass is a neat feature that many gamers would love to see get more attention from developers, so hopefully something from Nintendo can get the proverbial ball rolling.

With 3DS sales improving and Nintendo’s renewed focus this holiday season, what’s your opinion on the much beleaguered handheld? Does Nintendo have another 1-up in its pocket? Can they regain the faith of their loyal fan base?

Monster Hunter 3G Will Not Support Online Co-op

If you were looking to do your cooperative monster hunting online, prepare to be disappointed. Capcom has confirmed that their upcoming 3DS title, Monster Hunter 3G, will not support online co-op. As detailed on their support page, the game will still use the internet for downloadable event quests and items. If you want to play cooperatively with others however, you’ll need to do so locally.

As fans of the series are already aware, Capcom has a history of doing this with its portable Monster Hunter games, and I can’t say I get it. Co-op is an almost necessary part of the experience, and it seems rather short sighted to omit it for the mobile versions, especially in the case of the Nintendo 3DS, which promised improved online support as a key feature. So far that hasn’t been the case. We can only hope that this isn’t the shape of things to come, and developers will start taking advantage.

Nintendo Will Have Strong Showing at New York Comic Con

Get your utility belts and spidey shooters ready. It’s New York Comic Con time, and Nintendo’s coming out firing on all cylinders. Taking place from October 13-16, Nintendo will hold several events, including an interactive Pokemon Gaming Lounge(!!!), an exclusive screening of Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva which includes sure to be terrifying costumed characters, trivia contests and a chance to play the soon to be released Professor Layton and the Last Spectre. Most exciting, though, is that many games will be playable at the Nintendo booth. Hit the title to see them all:

I know I’m personally excited for the Professor Layton game, but what is really important to keep an eye on is the 3DS. Up until now the concern was the lack of games and support. Well here it is. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the gaming community reacts to these games.
