That means it’s time to whip out the grill one last time, crack open a beer (if you are of legal drinking age), and sit down in front of the television for some cheap cloud gaming. OnLive is having a sale over the weekend for all of us hard working Americans, with some games up to 75% off their regularly listed price. There aren’t a lot of high profile games that are part of the sale, but any deal that has Braid for $2.50 is worth looking into.

It turns out that Square Enix decided to pack in a redemption code for a free digital OnLive copy of the game as well. Square Enix is the first publisher to do something like this, so hopefully we’ll see more companies follow suit.

What? You didn’t get an OnLive code with your PC version of Deus Ex? Let me guess: You bought your copy at your local GameStop. How did I know that? Well, reports are circulating that a memo went out to GameStop employees telling them to open the PC copies of the game and remove the code. When asked to comment, GameStop public relations representative Beth Sharum said, “Square Enix packed the competitor’s coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge, and we did pull and discard these coupons.”

Do you think GameStop had any right to do this, or did they just end up looking like a bunch of jerks?

Even though Homefront has yet to be released, Kaos Studios is already preparing for work on the next iteration of the series. The game does have to perform well financially for a sequel to be officially green-lit, but considering that it is the most pre-ordered game in the US in publisher THQ’s history, we shouldn’t need to hold our breath. General manager and creative director for Kaos, David Votypka, expressed his vision for the series:

“We’ve been talking about it for quite a while…THQ and Kaos have always looked at it as a franchise. Assuming it does well, that’s certainly the plan – to move on to future Homefront products.”

While it is good to hear about the passion and expectations Votypka has for the game, there have been instances where that hasn’t quite panned out…cough Shenmue cough. So here’s to hoping the game is well received and Kaos Studios will get to realize their multi-gamed dream.

Homefront is to be released March 15th in the US, March 17th in Australia, March 18 in Europe, and April 14th in Japan. Fans can pick it up on the Xbox 360, PS3 and OnLive.

According to an email I just received OnLive is opening the PlayPack beta to all OnLive members, not just those who bought a Micro Console, or game system, or whatever they are calling it. For those who need their memories refreshed OnLive is going to offer a service called PlayPack where for $9.99 a month you can play all you want of back catalog titles. Right meow this includes F.E.A.R. 2, Tomb Raider Underworld, 2008′s Prince of Persia reboot, Ninja Blade, Lego Batman and a slew of other titles. The number of titles is expected to grow rapidly as the service goes on.

So if you have an OnLive account go ahead and login and give some of these older games a whirl. I know I’ll be spending most of the weekend playing Vin Diesel’s Wheelman.

UPDATE: The company also just tweeted the info.

OnLive is making a series of moves that are more than likely essential to the future of its business. Taking cues from juggernaut streaming services like Netflix and Pandora, OnLive is incorporating its streaming game service onto several popular devices. So far, the list of devices hopping on-board include Vizio’s Via Plus TVs & Blu-ray players as well as Android tablets & phones. OnLive is already available for PCs, Macs, and iPads. OnLive didn’t differentiate how functional their services would be on each individual device, so we’ll have to wait for more details to see which devices will offer full gaming like the PC or Mac and which will be used for spectating like the iPad.

In addition to attempting to become a ubiquitous feature of all internet-connected devices, OnLive is going to be implementing 3D support and 5.1 surround sound in early 2011.

To celebrate, OnLive announced that their MicroConsole would be 33% off until January 9th. So, to sum things up, OnLive will soon be available on a lot of devices eliminating the need for the OnLive MicroConsole, so go ahead and buy the recently discounted OnLive MicroConsole. Wait, what?
