It seems as though they will be adding a cool new feature to the game: Being able to delete your save files! This is a feature that they left out of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, and they received a lot of flak for it. They claimed it had nothing to do with preventing used game sales, but we’ll probably never know for certain.

In addition to that awesome news, they let us know that Resident Evil: Revelations will also utilize the Circle Pad Pro. They haven’t made any plans in terms of releasing a bundle for the device that comes out in Japan on December 10th. However, we still haven’t received a release date for the device in the US, but you can pick up the game on February 7th.

Do you think that we will see a Resident Evil/Circle Pad Pro bundle?

When it was first announced that Nintendo would be a major sponsor of this year’s Vans Warped Tour, I was more than a little shocked. It didn’t seem like an obvious fit. Why would the biggest video game company in the world want to attach themselves to a tour full of under-developed bands? The fact of the matter is that Nintendo has a product out right now that you need to see to believe, the 3DS. Armed with a giant tent full of 3DS demos and a staff eager to educate attendees of the tour, Nintendo’s presence at the Warped Tour might be one of the smartest moves they make all year.

It will be hard for attendees to miss Nintendo at this year’s festival. They have not one but two tents, and they are even sponsoring one of the larger stages. They are also handing out temporary tattoos, which by the end of the long day at the Chicago stop, were plastered all over the concert-goers. The tent holding the 3DS demo kiosks was, by far, one of the larger tents on the festival grounds. Inside were plenty of 3DS units running full versions of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Super Monkey Ball, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries, Super Street Fighter IV, and Dead or Alive Dimensions. Additionally, the staff was having a blast showing people the AR games.

I got hands on time with a few of the games, but since none of them were very new or exclusive to the tour, I’ll just say this: Super Street Fighter IV looks fantastic in 3D, Dead or Alive Dimensions felt unnecessary in every way, and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries was pretty boring and didn’t effectively use the 3D. AR games are still fantastic, but there has been little to no mention of new AR content, so far.

The most interesting thing about my time in the booth was the way the people manning it were handling perspective players. When I picked up a 3DS that was running Street Fighter, I was immediately approached by one of the staff. He then started asking me if I like fighting games and whether they were “my favorite type of game.” I told him I played all types of games, that fighting games weren’t my favorite, and that I wasn’t even good at them. That’s when he pointed out that most special moves could be performed on the touch screen. I assured him that these were things I knew, and he left me alone. However, it was cool to see how educated they were about the hardware and the software.

He then asked my wife what kind of games she liked, and when she responded “Angry Birds,” he took her on a tour of the AR games. These seemed to be the thing people in the booth were most excited about.

A couple of minutes into my time with Dead or Alive Dimensions, the same guy asked me what I thought. I told him the 3D seemed unnecessary, and he agreed with me. This, quite honestly, shocked me a bit. I figured he would want to hype me up on the 3D and get me excited for the system. It was pretty refreshing when he didn’t try to explain why the 3D actually made the game better.

At first, Nintendo at Warped Tour didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but after watching concert-goers stream in and out of Nintendo’s tent, and seeing the look on their faces when they picked up a 3DS for the first time, it all clicked. Nintendo needs to get this device out into the world and in front of as many faces as possible. While it may not be the target demographic for the system’s buyers, all these kids have parents and now their kids will ask for a 3DS or show their parents the glasses free 3D. It’s hard to believe it works, but the proof is there in the big Nintendo tent at this year’s Vans Warped Tour. If the tour is coming to your town, be sure to stop by and check it out. It’s one of the best ways to get a large amount of time with the device and truly decide whether or not the 3DS is for you.

So Capcom is celebrating this with a box set and some HD remakes. Japanese fans are getting those remakes on one convenient disk, while US fans of the franchise will be able to download them separately via the Xbox Live Market or the PSN.

The San Diego Comic Con has revealed a few new things about these remakes. Resident Evil 4 HD will be become available on September 20th, and one week later, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X HD will come out on September 27th. Furthermore, these remakes can be bought separately at retail stores as well. However, we still do not have a price for them. How much are you expecting them to cost, or what will you be willing to pay?

They’ve been making them for the last 15 years, and to celebrate the anniversary of their zombie(esq) cash cow, they are releasing a box set of the series. The Resident Evil 15th Anniversary Box includes the following:

Resident Evil Directors Cut (PSX)

Resident Evil 2 (PSX)

Resident Evil 3 Last Escape (PSX)

Resident Evil Revival Selection (PS3)

Resident Evil Code: Veronica soundtrack

Resident Evil 4 soundtrack

15th anniversary items: Pins & Stickers (STARS & Umbrella)

Spacer for PS3′s Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition

The Resident Evil Directors Cut, 2, and 3 all come on the original PlayStation discs from back in the day when they still used “real” zombies in the games, but have a new design just for this special package. The Resident Evil Revival Selection, as you may recall, is an HD collection of Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica. So you’ll essentially be getting all of the important games of the series in one convenient box set, except for Resident Evil 5. However, they’re including a spacer that you can take out and put your very own copy of Resident Evil 5 in the box, so your zombie collection stays all together.

Sadly, there has been no mention of a North American version of the box set, but you can order a Japanese version for ¥7,800 from e-Capcom when it’s released on September 8th for your PlayStation consoles.

However, Capcom is denying that the used game industry had anything to do withtheir decision to prevent erasing the save files for their game. A Capcom representative explained their decision to Kotaku:

“The nature of the game invites high levels of replayability in order to improve mission scores. In addition, this feature does not remove any content available for users. Second-hand game sales were not a factor in this development decision, so we hope that all our consumers will be able to enjoy the entirety of the survival-action experiences that the game does offer.”

So does this seem like a viable excuse for Capcom’s decision, or do you think this is just rhetoric they’re using to not upset people any further?

So, it appears as though Capcom’s strategy is working for them. However, some feel that this is unfair to people who bought the game new. What are your thoughts on it?

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is availble June 28th for the 3DS.

Let’s walk through this next story very slowly. One step at a time. Last November Kotaku ran a story saying that former SOCOM developer Slant Six was working on a new Resident Evil game called Raccoon City. It was going to focus on multiplayer and be much more action oriented than previous games. Now the website Stick Skills says that the game is called Operation Raccoon City and it will be the cover story of the May issue of Official Xbox Magazine. They have no pics of said cover, but the site is full of details about the supposed game.

It appears that you will play as a member of Umbrella Security Service trying to cover up the outbreak that causes all hell to break loose in the original Resident Evil. Even if that means killing innocent people who know too much. The game is said to be due out this Winter, and I’ll let you decide whether or not you go over to Stick Skills and have the details ruined for you. Keep in mind, that until we see proof of the cover, this is still a rumor. Even though it’s probably true.

Yesterday we got word that Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica were getting remade in HD for release in Japan. But what about us here in America, were we ever going to see those games? OF COURSE WE ARE! With one interesting twist. They will release for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 as digital downloads. Can you believe it? You wont even have to leave your house to buy games that you probably already have in your house! The screenshot above shows the upgraded visuals. On the left is the old version and on the right is the HDified version. Not bad. Look for the remakes this Fall.
