We’re just under three months away from the release of the PS Vita. So Sony thought it was time to drop the bomb, the pricing of their proprietary memory cards bomb, that is. Start shovelling that snow kids because you’ll need the dough. A 4GB memory card will run you $29.99, 8GB for $44.99, 16GB for $69.99, and 32GB will cost $119.99. So yeah, those who aren’t willing to pay for these will have to purchase their games retail. Portable gaming at its finest folks. Remember when we used to have to do that for all of our games? Wasn’t that fun?

The PS Vita will be released on February 22, 2012.

Since Sony has been rather quiet in regard to a future home console, many people think that they are falling behind. This speculation is given more strength when we hear that the company thinks there is still a lot of life to squeeze out of the PlayStation 3, citing the popularity the PlayStation 2 had toward the end of its life cycle. However, there have been reports of a first-party Sony developer ceasing to develop PS3 games and starting to focus on PS4 titles. Of course all this information only leads to further speculation, and we can’t know anything for sure until Sony says something. While Ryan’s statement does let us know they don’t plan on getting a late start again, it doesn’t give any sort of definite timeframe of when to expect the new machine. The question is: When will they officially announce their next generation of consoles?

If you’ve already made your mind up and know that you’re going to be an early adopter of the PS Vita, you may be interested to know that you’ll have a chance to be an über-early adopter. Sony has decided to let loyal consumers in the US and Canada have access to their latest portable device a week before the February 22nd release date if they’ll splurge on their First Edition Bundle. The US bundle includes a PS Vita 3G + Wi-Fi model, a limited edition case, 4GB PS Vita Memory Card, and Little Deviants game for $349.99. The Candian bundle contains a Wi-Fi model, a limited edition case, 4GB PS Vita Memory Card, and Little Deviants game for $299.99. Both bundles will are available for pre-order at select retailers.

This makes me wonder if they’re holding off a week for full release to help ensure stores are properly stocked or if they’re just trying to force those of us with no patience to buy a bundle. I have a hunch as to what the answer is and shudder to think of the precedent this may be setting.

So it seems that we can pretty much expect an Assassin’s Creed movie in the near future, and hopefully Sony won’t mess it up like they almost did with Uncharted. What are you hoping to see from the film adaptation?

Behold, treasure seekers, a steal of a deal is incoming. The PlayStation Blog has revealed that there will be a ‘Fortune Hunters Club’ (read: season pass) for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. We know it won’t include any single player DLC, but what will you get? Other than avoiding the embarrassment of not being part of the club, the $24.99 subscription will entitle you to the first four multiplayer map packs  and the first three multiplayer skins, with the first DLC coming in November. You’ll also receive the exclusive Fortune Hunters’ Club theme, and an XMB message when what you’ve already paid for is available for download.

Similar to other season passes, the goal is to have consumers purchase all of the DLC in one big pack before it’s released with the incentive of savings. With the Fortune Hunters Club, you will receive a 45% discount off buying it all individually. People may complain, but it’s a great way of doing DLC, especially for those who know they’ll be buying it all anyway.

Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception will be released on the PlayStation 3 on November 1, 2011

We all know it’s sad that we won’t be getting it this year, but at least we won’t have to wait too long in order to play the newest handheld device. In just a few short months, you’ll get to play with the front and rear touch panels, as well as it’s two analog sticks that don’t require a silly attachment.

So who’s going to be standing in line at 11:59 at night on February 21st to get one?

So you know all of those UMDs collecting dust on your shelf next to your uni-nubbed PSP? If you have any that aren’t a copy of Spiderman 2, they might be worth holding onto for a little while longer as they could be the source of a discount in the near future. Sony wisely opted to forgo UMDs in the Vita, leaving a backwards compatibility issue for PSP loyalists that have amassed a library of the obsolete plastic-encased discs.  In order to make good with these customers, Sony stated in a FAQ translated by Andriasang that they’re considering offering a discount for UMD owners to download their titles.

Further down the FAQ, Sony came forward with some unclear information about the backwards compatibility of some of the Game Archives, which is the Japanese catch-all label for PSOne Classics, Neo Geo games, and other classic game downloads. It sounded like they were somewhat pessimistic about the possibility of those games being compatible with the Vita, but once again, nothing is official. We’ll keep you updated if we hear anything official.

Another day, another security breach. Sony announced, early this morning, yet another security compromise to their PSN infrastructure.  While apparently no credit card information was said to be at risk, Sony still recommends updating your user credentials. Here’s what they had to say:

Less than one tenth of one percent (0.1%) of our PSN, SEN and SOE audience may have been affected. There were approximately 93,000 accounts globally (PSN/SEN: approximately 60,000 accounts; SOE: approximately 33,000) where the attempts succeeded in verifying those accounts’ valid sign-in IDs and passwords, and we have temporarily locked these accounts. Only a small fraction of these 93,000 accounts showed additional activity prior to being locked. We are currently reviewing those accounts for unauthorized access, and will provide more updates as we have them. Please note, if you have a credit card associated with your account, your credit card number is not at risk. We will work with any users whom we confirm have had unauthorized purchases made to restore amounts in the PSN/SEN or SOE wallet.
