If Amazon is to be believed, the HD remastered Splinter Cell trilogy will be released August 2. While nothing was said by Ubisoft about the game’s delay, Joystiq followed up to ask for conformation. The answer? A resounding “sometime this summer.” No joke. Amazon is usually pretty accurate with these things, but I wouldn’t bet the house on that release date just yet. I’m sure that Ubisoft will announce something soon, maybe at E3, although with the apathy towards the game that they seem to have, maybe they’ll just tell us when they feel like it.

Remember when Ubisoft created a film studio not too long ago? Well, they have not wasted any time to jump in and start developing their biggest properties. No brainers Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell will be getting the moving pictures treatment, along with the Ghost Recon franchise. In addition to these three properties, the Rabbids are getting an animated series of their own, which will be made up of 78 seven minute episodes. It seems like the development stages are really moving on these properties and we could probably expect to see some Ubisoft movies in about two years.

While it has already been confirmed that Ubisoft is working on a new Splinter Cell game, we now have possible images from said game. According to Gamerzines, the above image is from audio equipment maker Blue Sky, which posted the screen shot on their web site, only to have it promptly removed per Ubisoft’s request. There isn’t too much to garner from the screen, other than the simple Splinter Cell 6 and SC6 monikers, along with Sam Fisher’s glorious return to his awesome night vision goggles. Expect to hear more at E3.

Six games delayed all in one fell swoop. Not bad Ubisoft. Both Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia HD trilogies were due out yesterday for Playstation 3, yet neither arrived. IGN reports that for unknown reasons Ubisoft has pushed back the Prince of Persia trilogy to April 19th and the Splinter Cell trilogy to June 21st. Both blu-ray discs carry a retail price of $39.99.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday, Sony Ericsson announced that Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play, otherwise known as the PlayStation Phone, will be available this Spring in the U.S. through Verizon.

No exact date or price was given, but we did learn that the phone will be running the latest version of the Android operating system, Gingerbread 2.3. The display is a four-inch multi-touch screen and the phone will come with a 5.0 megapixel camera. The phone will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor with a 1Ghz CPU and an embedded Adreno GPU which should produce a nice and smooth 60 frames per second.

There are more than 50 games, including Need For Speed, Sims 3, FIFA 10, Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, and Guitar Hero, that are planned to be available at launch. Whether or not that many games will launch is still to be seen. Digital Chocolate, EA Mobile, Gameloft, Glu Mobile, Namco Bandai, and PopCap are all publishers developing games in addition to Sony Computer Entertainment.

Ubisoft announced today that not only is the trilogy going to hit stores on March 22nd for $39.99, and that they are doing the same thing with the first three Splinter Cell games.

On the up side, they didn’t try to get to you double dip with Splinter Cell…I guess…

The game is only listed as being released for the PlayStation 3, which is odd considering it was initially released on just the Xbox. Not much else is known about the game, but we can assume it will be the first three games in the series: Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Pretty crazy, right? Ubisoft’s new Toronto studio is hard at work on the next Splinter Cell game. I guess this means it’s not going to be as long between the last game and the next game. Sneaky.
